Freestyle, Funk, Disco, Rap and just plain ol' good stuff that fits.

Ed's a mad-man in a mad-world. Enjoy his 17th podcast. It's the kinda thing that could change minds.

DMX Podcast 16

Episode 16 teaches us all about Freestyle or 'Latin Hip Hop'. I've always been partial to the Freestyle/Break-dance cross-overs as I'm sure you're aware from some of my Electro etc. mixes. I've never bothered to make up a complete mix of it though so this episode will probably get lots of at home in the living room air time. The last bit of the sow is Detroit themed, but really there are parallels between Ed's Detroit drawn tracks and the Freestyle in the first half. Remove the vocals and shuffle the beats differently and you've got similar stuff.

This time the show is a bit different. Instead of listening to records, we take a trip to my studio and make a track on some old synths and stuff in under 90 minutes.

Ed takes what could potentially be an hour of boring and random noises and instead walks us through the creation of a track. You will enjoy this show.

The newest Edmx Podcast is now available. It should totally help you through another one of these boring December 25th mornings with it's eclecticism.

Here's the final Podcast for 2009, featuring old-school hip hop, ragga, UK garage and Detroit electro.
Hope you all get what you want for Christmas (I want a Clarence G record please).

DMX Krew Liveset (Nov 2009)

user-pic

Ed has recently re-vamped his web-site..more so with new content than with anything else. The bit that caught my ear was the new live-set he's put up. It's from Leipzig a month or so ago and is chock full of all kinds of Electro and Acid goodness. As you'd expect from him of course.

Edmx Podcast 13

Unlucky for some, Episode 13 features a lot of old Chicago house, mostly of the acid variety, plus some Detroit techno and some electro from wherever.

When I heard the first half hour and it was all Electro I began to think the whole show would be and was very excited about it. When the Electro began to peter out I wasn't crushed as it was replaced with stuff that was still as good Chicagoan and Detroit; my first two discoveries in the realm of Electronic!

Ed has put together his 12th podcast for us to hang our lowly ears off of. It's his '45 RPM Special' so naturally it's a show consisting of 7" 45's. The reason? I don't think there is one, but that doesn't lessen the quality. The best things in life are without purpose.

Ed takes a brief excursion through his limited Italo-Disco experiences and smoothly moves into other realms occupied by Prince and Eddy Grant. The following acid will be appreciated by you all of course. The highlight of the whole show for me fell in the post acid setcion, amidst the ghetto and booty selections; an old Dj Assault track I used to drool over and had totally forgotten about until today. You Can't See Me. It Rules.

EDMX Podcast #9

Ed has just finished putting together the final touches on his latest podcast. We're hitting the 9th installment already and he's only now getting to the more electronic content. His wide ranging tastes and knowledge will probably keep us busy for a good, long time. That is, if we keep the interest levels up to make it worthwhile for him.

EDMX Podcast #8

user-pic

The eighth in Ed's podcast series and one of the first with a very healthy Electro, Funk and Soul theme. Starting with James Brown and working through Janet Jackson, Nu Shooz, Egyptian Lover, Arabian Prince and NWA amongst others. There's even an indication of coming near more Techno/Electronic shows in the near future. I'd be just as interested as a full on funk and soul show or two more, but will enjoy whatever is sent out way.

The seventh episode is live of EDMX's very appreciated Podcast. This time working it's way into some rather raw Electro from 'Tha D' via routes you may not have guessed.

Remember, Ed is feedback hungry. Feed him and watch him grow!

Edmx Podcast #5

user-pic

As of this very minute it's not actually posted on Ed's blogspot page yet, but it will be. It's imminent!

For episode #5 in the --hopefully- fantastically long running show he's begun Ed has felt the need to include some Disco, Acid, Electro in his usual perception bending ordering with his enlightening descriptions and connections. In other words it's another great show from Ed that should be played loud for friends and enemies alike.

Spread the word.

Edmx "2K3 Beats" Frijsfo Beats 03

This new Edmx is only new in the sense that it's just now being released. The story is that Ed actually put these tracks together back in 2003/4 and they're only now seeing the light of day. Whatever the story is...A1 and B2 are awesome and worth picking this Ep up for.

The Podcast which has ensnared my imagination and gotten my butt up off the office chair has another new episode available. It's actually been ready for 2 days now I think, but you've all been left out of the loop because of my job. I'm all clocked out now and have the time to share.

This, most recent, show is chock full of all kinds of early 90's House and Techno gems. Most of them I recognized and most of them you will too, there were however some sweet little numbers that Ed has now taught us all about. And I'm sure I'll be doing some exploratory Discogs spelunking now because of it.

Edmx Podcast...

And if you haven't listened to the first three already, you're obviously behind the times. Get with it! As usual if you like the Podcast (or even don't like it - constructive criticism only makes it better) please leave a comment on Ed's blog page. The feedback feeds his motivation with regards to doing this labour intensive show so without we lose out!

Edmx Podcast #3

Ed has put together the third in his hopefully long lasting series. This one is to be the last in the "83 - '92" time span he says. As per the previous two it definitely meets the quality control standards. Another highly recommended listen.

Leave a comment on Ed's blogspot page if you enjoy it. That will allow him to gauge interest and keep him busy!

As opposed to the regular mix format of Bleep Radio, this week is a more standard 'radio' format. It comes to us all courtesy of Ed Upton who you know by some of the following names: edmx, dmx krew and, computor rockers (as a small sampling). I stumbled across Ed's first podcast and was so impressed with it I had to get in touch with him about possibly doing another one for Bleep.

We're all here now so you know what became of that email exchange.

It's informative, insightful and in my opinion it's something that is lacking for this area of music. I firmly believe that more people would be more appreciative and more supportive if there were more shows like this for them to listen to. Dj mixes are fantastic and we all love to download new ones to burn for in car entertainment (or where ever you prefer to listen), but when it comes to luring new blood into the scene it needs to be more accessible and we need to encourage new people to learn as much as they can about it at the same time. This is a great resource for this goal, especially with it's very broad and open minded approach. Of course Ed's great taste in music certainly helps!

Big thanks go to Ed, let him know if you like his podcast so he'll be willing to make more in the future. The music needs it.

DMX Krew Radio - 1

user-pic

I discovered a new dmx krew EP that'll be out (and posted) soon and while doing some online digging I found a podcast that Ed had done as a bit of promo for the label the EP is on (Turbo). It's a great listen and I highly recommend that everyone take a peek at it. Ed plays a series of songs that were influential for him and gives a bit of back story. Some of you may remember when I did that with Bleep (although via text) and know that it's very informative and insightful.

Also keep an eye out for a future dmx krew podcast hosted here on FitM / Bleep Radio. He's been kinda enough to let his next one be associated with us lot.

Breakin' boss Ed DMX supplies six tracks of freaked-out modular synth madness mangled through the Macintosh into some weird high-velocity electrofunk. EDMX is Ed's alias for the more hard and fast stuff, these tracks are experimental but with lots of sub-bass and high tempo beats with unusual grooves. EDMX can be seen performing around the world, recently played in Japan with Breakin' artists Ceephax Acid Crew and also appeared this year at the Bang Face weekender, the Bloc Weekend party and will continue to play out globally throughout the summer.

EDMX Mixes

I've been grabbing these all week since I stumbled across them. A few turned out to be mixes I'd found in other spots across the net, but it's nice to be able to point to a bunch on one page for those who haven't seen or heard these before.
