Veto Says:
New styles from the Pretension camp, following up from the awesome EPs by Justin Maxwell and The Diskchordians. Fresh from a trip back to Chicago, 1987, Jon ( Bass Kittens ) & Miguel ( Single Cell Orchestra ) laid down a track drawing on their love of acid house . Never leaving behind the stomp of pure acid, they added modern DSP trickery to produce a track that simultaneously pays homage to their roots while looking to the future. A layer of acid-inspired vocals from Mariette Marinus & MC Silly B Chill completes the picture. Kinda like Abe Duques' 303 excursions but with more of an electro edge.
On the flip, “Down With Digital” essays a bass-and-bleep heavy electro thumper, paired with a dub version of “Easy Money” for those who find the vocals not to their liking (or those who wish to add their own vocals!)
Tried and tested on dancefloors already, once again it's time to jack jack jack the tab...
I say:
Definitely a good record. I was thoroughly impressed with the lone track that Bass Kitten & Single Cell Orchestra did on the Spacebar Sentiments Volume 3 EP and had hoped to hear what else this team could come up with. Well here we go! None of these three tracks even approach the level of insanity that Morgasm did on Spacebar, but they're still all well worth grabbing. What surprisedme most was that 2 of them are deadly Acid tracks! I was expecting more electro; possibly some Hip Hop or Beats. I was not expecting Acid. I am very impressed too. 99% of the Acid house that comes out right now makes me hurl insults. The Acid tracks on this EP were not insult worthy. Not by a long shot. Enough of the Oldschool flavour and style to keep aging ravers like me happy, but enough newschool production techniques and ideas to keep today's kid's attention.
