Veto says:
Those of you who have been paying attention will have noticed that these guys are no strangers to [k]racktroni[k]. A dynamic electro duo made up of Ian Sherwen (aka 8-Bit Apocalypse, DJ Sherwen, Windscale) and Neil McAuley (aka Madjack), they have been producing music together for many years (releasing the dangerous "Music is our bomb" EP as Fangshi on the now defunct Round Records, and the bass-tastic "Make your car look extremely pretty" on Ed DMX's hardcore electro Breakin' label). 8-Bit Apocalypse also helps run [k]racktroni[k] alongside Sir Real, and has contributed many well-received remixes for the label, so despite being a long time coming it was also a natural progression to release their second EP as Sol_Dat on the label. Renowned for their ever-evolving live shows (8-Bit is also an accomplished circuit-bender, and uses his unique instruments as part of the show) the "Excession EP" is a perfect summation of what you might expect from them live. Always inspired by film soundtracks (particularly the work of John Carpenter) these four tracks meld rough electro beats and breaks with filmic strings and samples (“Guild Report” uses samples from “Dune” to great atmospheric effect). In many ways Sol_Dat are the purist electro side to [k]racktroni[k], although this EP is actually far from purist in nature. Listen closely and you will hear elements of 2-step, breaks, techno, Chicago house and more nestling securely in the mix – but always with that unique Sol_Dat production style and of course their killer melodies.
