I don't know if I've mentioned it. Or maybe I have, but just not lately...

I really like everything that Luke has done so far. From the track on the Don't Rompus Room Comp. to the newer full Don't and Bowwow EPs. It's all killer. Clean bass throbbing low enough to soil your neighbor's panties and so many tweaky squeals you'd think you were listening to a school-yard full of Meth addicts. Luke gives nods to jackin' chicagoan and oldschool hardcore alike. In short, me likey long time.

Fun in the Mp3

I realize that not everyone who reads or even stumbles across Fun in the Murky is a DJ or record buyer. On that note, most of you still like the music (or you wouldn't come back) but have no way of owning it aside from finding a DJ Set that contains the songs you like. We all know we can't depend on DJ's to play exactly what we want them to everytime. So what better way than to sell the tracks?!

What's new as of RIGHT NOW is that The Murky Store also stocks MP3s. Ok, so I only have one record and one mp3 release in there so far, but there is more on the way. I promise! Right now somewhere around the Great Lakes is a package containing the back catalog of Paul Birken's mighty fine "Tonewrecker" label and I'm talking to several other labels and artists about getting more. Hopefully in the next month the total MP3 download count will be closer to 30.

For now, while the details are being worked out with regards to seeing how the downloads go there will only be whole EPs sold. No individual tracks (yet!). But like everything else I do I do it as fairly as possible. A whole EP will average $5 Canadian which is almost half of what other "stores" ask for.

The first Murky Store MP3 is...

Murky Store

This is going to be a very open concept thing as usual so if anyone would like to ask me anything, share some ideas, tell me about an artist or label who you think would like to join up then just give a holler.

Veto Supplied Information
Exceleration Records returns after a 4 year pause but they are back with a very strong 12” that combines the powers of Supreme.ja and Exzakt. Supreme.ja is a German electro veteran who has been releasing hot tracks since 1997. "The Darkside" is a driving very tightly fit electro number with solid beats, moving bassline, and smooth melodies. Next comes “He's Waiting” which is a briliant combination of old school breaks/progressive electro and hard electro beats. This track is very deep however will not lose people on a dancefloor. On Side B Exzakt takes things over with two remixes of The Darkside. Signature Exzakt sounds all over this with parts of the original fit in just right. "Bonus Beats" is an entire different track in a sense, so lots of options on this 12”.

A1 - Bounce [ listen ]
A2 - Bounce spare parts
B1 - Basstown [ listen ]
B2 - Nympho [ listen ]

Release Date: October 2006 (Confirmed as out Early via Electrowax!)

Veto Supplied Additional Information:
Monotone's seventh outing features Miami's premiere electro-bass duo Hydraulix, and their latest 12” "Bounce" is sure to be another Monotone future classic. Once again the label comes with the heat and possibly Hydraulix's best 12“ to date. Side A brings the title track "Bounce“ with distorted kick drums and solid snares that ride you to the break with high energy. A perfect blend of Miami bass and distorted electro crunchiness. A2 gives you the juicy parts as a DJ tool. Side B jumps off with "Basstown" which is a more straight 808 and vocoder number with Hydraulix's signature crisp beats. This cut is a perfect bridge of electro breaks and electro-bass. "Nympho" ends this 12” off but don't consider this an inside cut filler because once again heavy 808 beats and the moans and groans give you a hint of the reason for the track title. As usual Monotone pulls out another multi-tracker from which any one of the tracks alone could carry a

Release Date: August, 2006 (Confirmed as Available)

Veto Supplied Additional Information
After a prolonged break, James Wolfe's well-respected Frajile label throws it's hat back into the arena with a storming debut 4-tracker from new artist Brice Kelly, and from the evidence of this release there should be plenty more to come from him in the future. Detailed yet crisp and open production, tight punchy bass, and classic spacey electro atmospheres permeate the whole single, and of course there is no let-up from the obligatory 808 action. All four tracks will have their place on any self-respecting electro dancefloor, and the record is sure to find favour with a whole host of DJs. Super-strong release!!!

Full on techy bleepno. I can see myself having a lot of fun with this, doubles would be wicked. It's been a long time since I really dug anything Delano has made, but this is good. It has an old Resource Record feel to it I find. Maybe like older EBE stuff..? Anyway, it's good. That's all that matters.

I got home really late from work today. So what that means is I don't have time to do much in the way of the Murk. So I'll use this off day to let you in on the behind the scenes...yeah...thrilling I know.

1. Via live365 Fun in the Murky will have it's own little radio show soon. It wont be mixed shows like Bleep, it'll be playlists of whole tracks. I'll put a lot of thought into those playlists of course. To show how good the music is, with conversions in mind!

2. It's been mentioned once already, but no links have been put on the main page yet. The Murky Store has 1 record in stock with more to be added, as well as MP3's and Wavs in the coming weeks and months.

3. I've also mentioned in the past that I'm working on a new version of Fun in the Murky. Bits of it are ready and this week I'll start phasing chunks of it in. I'll start with the smaller pages to see if it's working first. My goal is too have it in full use within two weeks.

So radio, store, new Murky...going to be some changes soon! OH! And Tomorrow is the last day that the downloads will be turned off. Bright and early on the morning of the 20th they'll be back in action. Sweet.

So that scallywag Ed Giles (AKA 3d!t / Edit) has finally got some stuff together to share with everyone. Nice timing too, as there are copies of his Victim Recordings EP available again via Victim's new Distributor; "The Sting EP".

Ed's New Site has a silly amount of tracks to download freely, 2 live sets and a flash video he made. Some info too, but I think we already know too much....!

Here's a mix of records I've purchased almost exclusively at used record stores, flea markets or just found over the years. Funk, Rap, Electro and Breakdance and whatever else I figured would make other people's head's bob (as much as my own!). So here's my "Selfish Boogaloo". As an after thought, because I had some fun doing this one up maybe a future Bleep show of it is in order too..!?

And because we all know my server is kaput (for 3 more days!) a friend of mine is hosting this for me. Word Up Scott.

So for those of you who enjoyed the Klangnet D samples I posted 2 weeks ago, or heard it elsewhere, or haven't heard it, but know it's good...I've got news for you.

1- The brand spanking new Klangnet site is up and ready for starring at intently for hours. Klangnet

2 - For those of you who live in North America you don't have to order it from Germany...I have it in-stock at the brand new Murky Store! Murky Store
Murky Store isn't going to have it's offical opening for a few more weeks, but I don't see the harm in anyone using it yet - Only 1 title in stock so far, but more arriving soon.

I've mentioned Vergel and his Podcast before, but for some reason I haven't been keeping up with his shows on Murky. Don't ask why because I don't know why.

Vergel runs a blog styled site, a techno podcast and even has his own Techno "zine". He does it all out of his basement studio and in the case of his zine it's all put together out of his own pocket coin. In other words, a fan of Techno who has no qualms about it costing him a bit of money to spread the love. It might not be the style of Techno I ordinarily mention on Murky, but Detroit Techno is something I play a lot of if it's been done right...besides good music is good music and I'm sure some of you will appreciate his love of what he does. Some music, some talk and some info about his next issue of Assembler.

[Lx7 Podcast] #017 - The 10 year Anniversary Show
As summer ends it also marks the 10 year anniversary of me making techno music. I've searched for my first 2 recorded songs to demo on the show. The rational on why I still do it, and the value of sharing the music. A thank you to everyone who voted for the show on podcast alley. An all call out for the next mix cd and the announcement that we are now one step closer to making that a reality. Also an early warning that the next show should be the 2nd issue of Assembler Techno Fanzine.

I have good news concerning the excess Bandwdith situation!

My last e-mail to my host (basically me finally giving up)

2 things to end this off with...

1 - How is it even possible for 1 I.P. Address to connect and download a file every second? It's my understanding of Internet Connections that that is not even possible. The RIPE whois says it's a regular DSL line. a DSL line can not download that much data in that time span. It would have to be like a 220meg/s connnection which is ridiculous. I've yet to find anyone who can offer an even remotely plausible explanation for what has happened. As far as it being posted on a popular message board - that is incorrect. I know how server logs work and I know that's not the case. I also use Google Analytics and it has no mention of this. Plus!!! The genre of music I promote and push is a VERY unknown style of music. Many of the record I help sell only have between 300-500 copies even pressed worldwide. It's a very small following.

I'm just trying to understand how this could happen. There is NO logical explanation for it. If I was offered one that made any kind of sense I would immediately leave well enough alone. It almost seems like every time I offer more info I get more of the "popular song" or "popular site" thing. Which is absolutely bogus. I have been running my site for years now and spend a silly amount of time going through server logs to see where traffic is coming from and where it is going to. If it was a case of a popular site or song I would know it instantly. This smells foul.

2 - I would prefer it if we could set the payment up to be split as finely as possible. I was told previously it could be split into 3 monthly payment? I would like to set this up please.

Trevor Wilkes

I just asked for some sort of explanation; that's not too much! I think the guy I was dealing with maybe passed me on to someone higher up??? But I finally got a reply I'm happy with - even though I had given up and was prepared to pay (I've actually already put $100 US down as a payment so now my account has a credit balance)

My Hosts' most excellent reply..

How about secret options number three? I cancel the large outstanding
bandwidth charge! We can survive the extra GB of bandwidth right now and
we need goodwill a lot more than a few dollars imho. Just stick around
until after we get our core router back from the dead and maybe we'll be
worthy of recommending to your friends and family. Regardless I hope you
have a better weekend than we do (we have to repace the chassis on the
router on Monday night and until then it looks like it's going to be a
bit rough - for that and all the hassle and frustration I apologize). If
you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly:

emailhidden@myhost.com

Cheers!

John

So in the end I got what I feel is the right thing done. So far the charges have been dropped, but my bandwidth meter still reads as over my limit. So right now I don't owe money but I still can't enable downloads. I can live with that. It definitely is worth the sacrifice.

What this means is that for those of you who donated money (Thank you!) but I'll be getting in touch with you today and tomorrow so I can give your money back to you. The goodwill offers were very much appreciated and made my huge bill easier to live with, but if I have no bill I can't rightly keep your money..so back it goes!

The Bass Invaders have offered some of their space for hosting Bleep Radio #39!

Tracklisting was posted yesterday, but the link wasn't. Now that it has a home I can share it!.

Download The Bleep Radio 39 Archive

Bitter Sweet. Indeed it is. Bleep Radio #39 is airing right now on Livesets and those of you who miss it, truly miss it. Since Fun in the Murky took it on the chin from someone in Slovenia this month (Dude, I'm so pissed at you) I can't offer the Bleep Radio archive download until the 20th when my bandwidth re-cycles. Yes that's two weeks away. The alternative is to allow downlaods again and pay even more cash. The alternative does not amuse me.

There is a glmmer of hope...I have an offer of some temp space. So I might be able to get the archive hosted elsewhere until I'm back in black. We'll see. I'll make sure it's known when/if I do get it online so don't worry about looking carefully for links.

Bleep Radio #39 was a Guest set! The TSR Geezers thought they'd put together a dj set and then subsequently have it stumble it's way to me for Bleep. That's my story...and I'm sticking to it.

I don't know what happened.

For the time being, until I can figure out if it was an error or this really did happen I'll have to turn off downloads on Fun in the Murky.

In the past I've been able to offer a lot of downloads because I have a very large amount of bandwidth. It seems that my host is telling me that in 2 days I've used it all. I don't see how this is possible since I've never gone over the 50% mark before and now they're telling me I used 150% of it in two days. Something smells funny. If I can get ahold of them and straighten this out Fun in the Murky will be back in action. If I can't get it straightened out, well then I owe them $586 USD. Which I don't exactly have handy.

So Audio is gone for the moment. Video is gone for the moment. Bleep Radio's archives are gone for the moment. Basically Downloads are gone for the moment until I can figure out who or what hit the server and transferred terabytes worth of data in 2 days.

Domain fun-in-the-murky.com http: cycle to date 3292.933 gb, yesterday 2432.278 gb

Total used is now 3301.112 gb (155.13% of plan, 1173.112 gb over)

This really sucks guys and gals, sorry for the temporary shuttering....

Update:
OK! It's true...DOWNLOADS will be off for a while it seems.

I don't like to ask for help - in fact I get quite a lot of pleasure with my ability to help out other people with their internet space and whatnot. But I simply can't afford to pay for that huge Bandwidth bill myself. So without further ado I subject myself to the whims of an Internet audience and ask for help. Any amount is appreciated WHOLLY. I don't know if this will work out at all, but any small chunk out of that bill will help me a lot.

I've discovered my Host offers a Donate to my Bill program...How kind of them.

I don't know if this is good or bad...but at least we've figured out what happened. Sort of. One single file was downloaded 28, 285 Times on September 2nd. It was 85 Megs. Is that even possible?

- Despite my server log numbers not adding up my host still doesn't seem to want to admit there has been an error. Still arguing....Downloads might be gone for the rest of the bandwidth billing cycle which is another 15 days. That would suck. If anyone works in the hosting area or just knows a lot about servers/server logs etc. and think they can help me formulate a "for sure" argument for my case...please get in touch. I'm pretty knowledgable, but someone who works in this area full-time could probably help me out. -> bleep@isoprax.com

Thank You!!

Alex AKA al.x.e has made it known that there are some free mp3 downloads from the Zinch crew on thier website. They also have a Question posted that'll get you a free copy of the only record I've done an offical Fun in the Murky Review. The review section isn't live yet, but it's still readable.

To start you off...here's one of my favorite Bernard's Haircut track for free al.x.e "kidding"

For the rest - and the possible free vinyl check out zinch.de

When you're done...it would only be polite to send a thank you note ;)

Some short, but sweet battle mixes from Dj Guy. These remind me of an older set of his I have somewhere. A Full length set. I'll have to check around to see if I still have it and upload it. Because as good as these short bits are...they're short.

"
...They're from a DJ battle we had on the dickride.com
forum - just a bit of fun.

The first 2 mixes are 5 minutes long and the winning final round mix is 10 minutes. Short
but sweet. Napolean Dynamite fans - check the cheeky samples in the final round mix.
