Illin' Archives

Two weeks ago I mentioned an ILLFM show that was hosted by Edit and featured Jerome Hill, Mustard Gunn and the Bass Invaders. Right, you all remember that because you all tuned in. Naturally!

Regardless of whether or not you -- actually -- caught it live ( I missed most due to work), it's finally available in the ILLFM archives for download.

Vadz of Phubriq and most recently Diggarama has a small collection of tracks that he'd like to find a home for. Understandable.

He calls it an IDM album, but I'm sure lots of people would call it lots of things. Take a listen and if you know of someone who may like any of it well then pass 'er along.

There's nothing new today.

Well, at least nothing new has presented itself to me. So after some archive digging I've decided to post an old Titonton DJ set. Bleep Bleep. Enjoy and spread.

For all you who dig the tunes, but are frustrated about not having the option of buying them on CD to listen to. Here's something for.

I-O is one of my favorite labels so I'll be grabbing this one for absolute sure. I consider it a bonus that it's mixed by Dave Tarrida.

I have made a new discovery! I'm sure you all have known all about these guys for ages and poor ol' Trevor was left in the dark concerning them....right?

All is forgiven now that one of you has clued me in. These guys are great! Sense of humour? Check! Stand at attention for some comedy/noise/8-bit-core-core! Bleep.

Right before yesterday's Bleep Radio show was -- as mentioned -- the Rave Idle contest's beginnings on illfm. Well now the polls are open. I would not expect you to vote blindly though so it's a good thing they have up some archived matter to listen to first. An informed decision is a decision that correctly crowns the illfm Rave Idle Champion!

I've been sitting on this mix for 3 weeks now. it's been patiently waiting it's airtime. it's the mix that kinda marks the cross over between the bag of records I've been playing out for the last month or so and the bag I'm replacing that with. The next 2-3 shows of my own will all be like that, each week featuring less stuff that I've played recently. Aside from explaining that, there's not much else to tell this week!

I'm pretty certain this whole idea is sitting on that thin line that splits genius and insanity. I'm also pretty certain the guys who came up with it are well aware of that fact and are banking on it to see them through the rough patches.

Here's the premise:
12 London area Producers + 5 Genre of 'Rave' Music + 6 Rounds of battle

Each month, each producer writes a track in that month's chooen genre and they hold a Rave idol challenge with judges and the lot.

The winner is chosen via voting or something. I'm not sure how they're doing it all. Via their chat maybe?

Read on for their own write-up and the rest of the info...

For everyone that has their head on straight and knows what's what I've got here a new Jerome Hill Dj Mix. It was recorded at a party at Clash Club (??) in Brazil for a Tresor Night. Clocking in at 90 some odd minutes of cross genre, boundary bending it's a great listen.

"Combat Recordings is a label aimed at releasing fierce electronic dance music drawn from the unstable, creative space between electro, breakbeat and electronica genres, combining their strong points. While ultra-detailed and intricately programmed, all tracks are aggressive DJ weapons and solidly aimed at the dancefloor."

I can't really sum it up any better than the label write-up on Discog's so I may as well just lead with it!

Ever since Mark Hawkins brought Vadz to my attention I've been in love with the guy's productions. Not quite Techno, not quite Electro - which is what totally makes it both.

Vadz' Bleep Radio show set records. His show was the first show to ever cross the 2000 downloads in one month mark. It even beat out the Neil Landstrumm tribute mix which was at that point the most downloaded show.

If you enjoyed his Bleep show, you'll enjoy this net-label release of his. Your first though upon hearing the first track will probably be along the lines of what I thought..."Why the hell is this not pressed???". Seriously. Good work Vadz, keep it up brother!

No Future Tape??

This was posted online by some random person a few months back. That person is who titled it I'm thinking, so there's no telling in what way it's 'No Future' aside from a great track selection.

It is a good mixtape though. I spy lots of Neil Landstrumm, some Subhead, dbx and lots of other stuff that goes a long way to confirm the 1996 date in the ID tag.

Side A | Side B

Those of you who follow along may remember the last time Bleep was invaded by Mike Holmes. If you don't, let me refresh your memory.

I'm finally wading through some of my downloaded set back log. Up next is one of the sets from Tresor's grand re-opening. I couldn't find the surprise guest set (Cristain Vogel). I hear it wasn't recorded. That's just fine though because Kriek's set from the same night is a stormer.

Here's a little heads up for those interested...

Broadcasting live at 8:00 PM GMT to Midnight GMT on illfm.net are Jerome Hill, Bass Invaders (live) and Mustard Gunn. of course who better to host this period of debauchery than 3d!t himself.

I should be able to get home from work soon enough to record a bit of this. Who knows though. We'll just have to see what happens.

Today we have a mix to listen to on an electro tip. It was referred to me by
Dan 'dKilla' of Columbus, Ohio whom I met last month. I finally got around to actually giving it a listen and it was quite good! The tracklist is on the back-side image and I'm ont interested in taking the time to write it all out so just click it and looksy.

The boys that are responsible for more than we'll ever know for sure: Kraftwerk!

It's not new by any means. It's a repress. Even then I'm only grabbing it for "House Phone" as the other two are a wee too floaty for this here jacker.

I almost feel guilty mentioning this EP. Poker Flat and the label that Steve Bug ran before it (Raw Elements) used to be pretty high on my list, and then this minimal craze took over. In my mind the quality has plummeted. I used to buy nearly ever Poker Flat that came out and now it's one of the labels that represents --to me-- whats wrong with Techno. With only the slightest urging I'd go on ad nauseum about this...so I'll call it quits while I'm ahead.

For the record. I f*$king hate Claude Von Stroke. With a passion.

....Oh yeah, the original track "Fire" is pretty tight. Not as jackin' as Jeff's earlier work, but it does retain some of the magic that I know is up his sleeve.

These three tracks were originally released on the same EP as "Magic Feet". If you don't know Magic Feet by name I can assure you that you'd know it to hear it. Stemming from the prime time for Acid House, these track were originally released in 1988. Mike Dunn clearly (clearly!) knew what the hell he was doing. His music hasn't dated nearly as badly as a lot of others from the same time period. In fact I can't think of any MD that isn't good still.

So what I have here is a small pack of samples. Loops, Hits, Blips, Rip-Snorts and Stabs. They all come courtesy of Paul Birken. Some of you may have heard of him.

Semiotic's 'Murkyotic' added
Jerome Hill's 'Murky Ditty' added
Grinch's 'Grinch Remix' added
2 versions by Martin Becker(AKA Buffer Overload) added
Oliver Rosemann's added
A.I.P. added
TSR/Robert Sundelin Added

The next squeak in a long line of farts!

The TSR boys and Axel Sohns have teamed up to get this new Ep out and in our ears. Axel's label Kitty Corner Records is the host to this one and you may notice it's catalog number is about one number higher than you'd think it would be (4!). This is because due to some problems #3 will no longer be put out before #4. #3 will be ....someone who is totally radical. I just can't remember if I'm allowed to spill the beans yet...?? I'll have to re-check on that one.

Not that catalog number order REALLY SUPER MATTERS. Because it doesn't. Enjoy the great record and the sweet artwork.

Close call. I recorded this mix 2 hours before the Live Stream. I usually get it out of the way on the weekend so I can do other things through the week. I wasn't in the mood to play last weekend though. I even put together a whole show of Unmixed tracks with me being all Mr. Radio and playing with my Mic. Yeah I was none to happy with that so I scratched it and warmed up the decks when I got home from work.

Bleep 67 was a pain in the arse.

Hopefully some of the future guests get mixes in so we can go back to enjoying Bleep. Lined up and awaiting mixes from: Chris Sattinger, Hanno Hinkelbein, Luke's Anger, Paul Birken and a few others right now. Patience my pretties....

This is an awesome EP. The first time I really heard Norman's stuff was on Feinwerk 8 and that one threw me through a loop. This time he does it again, but in a different style. Where 8 was rough and tough, 14 is deep and spacey with a bit more bounce. It still has that edge to it, that Norman seems to possess. His use of delay on the bleeps and bloops is very easy to get lost in while attempting to follow them around. Also being extremely pert and alert helps a fair heft.

Complex enough to enjoy at home, definitely rocking enough to play out. Need more Norman.

Neil has never done my ears wrong. It seems he's going to insist on continuing with this trend until we all retire. The newest LP, the culmination of his Dubstep and Grime material to date.

In the past he seemed to move on to a different style or approach to his music after he releases an LP. I guess we'll either hear some more of the latest gold for a bit or have to sit through a bit of a break until he conjures up more magic for us.

What we have here today is another Electro record from the solid Monotone crew. Big bottom ended, Miami style, Electro grooves with all the bits you expect and some you may not be. I can always tell when I'm in one of my rotten moods. That's usually when I fall back on some Electro as a pick me up. This Ep worked.

As I was about to dig into the news worthy bits I've got sorted to the side I happened to see that Syntax Error of Feinwerk and Snork records has posted up a new Dj Mix of his own.

Now I'm not even done downloading it myself, but I'm willing to trust his taste at this point in time as his last few DJ mixes and his Bleep Radio set were all aces in my books. I don't have a tracklisting to share, But when I've had a chance to listen to this I might be able to contribute at least a partial tracklist. We'll see.

Here's another helping of Wee Dj audio. This time in the form of his latest Live-Set. he's offered two versions of this for download. I chose to download the version with "audience sound" as that's usually the hype version. I'll let you decide what you want though.

Download: w/ no audience sound

For those of you who are as big Wee Djs fans as myself, here's a Double Ep that'll be very rare in the future. Lots of wobbly nipple tweaking going on!

Another week, another Bleep. Bleep's numbers have been jumping higher than usual lately. What the heck is going on? I hope those guests I've got lined up get their mixes in soon so no one is disappointed!

I'm awaiting mixed from: Chris Sattinger, Hanno Hinkelbein and Luke's Anger. patiently awaiting. no word on when they'll be in, so you're stuck with my mixes until then. Unless someone else sends one in that I really like!

Mahatma Live Set

Mahatma, brother to Quick and Smart, Destroyer of the meek. Has given me a Live Set to share with you all. I believe he said it's his first live-set. So for those of you who grab his Dj Sets, this will be different than what you are used to. It's still rough and tough, but has a bit more tongue in cheek maybe.

Anyway, I'm sure he'd like to hear what you think. So if you grab it don't be afraid to post a comment. Good or bad, criticism -- if justifiable -- always helps.

Mike has one new mini-mix for your ear holes and an older mix for whatever other orifice you choose to fill.

Here here!

What we have from Lief and Mr. Error is a follow-up EP to their "Still Missing" joint release on Syntax error's Feinwerk label. Apparently to sweeten the deal, Bombtrap is the crew in charge of this here one. It's like putting cheese on something. It makes it better!

I should really sort out some sort of graph with all these numbers. And start tossing around words like "trends" and "collateral" or something. You know...make it seem like there is some sort of plan to go with this data, this data that keeps going up each month.

I was wondering this weekend when the Unique Visitor numbers would hit the ceiling and stop going up. But then I realized it's like those jars of jelly beans where you try to guess how many are inside...It just makes you hungry in the end.

What I mean to say is...Thanks for another great month folks!
