First off...
If you don't know what "Dance Mania" is it's too late for you. You're probably beyond saving. But you should still make an effort to acquaint yourself with the label responsible for so much.

For ages now I've tossed around the idea of doing a Bleep Radio show with a Dance Mania theme. It would be a sort of Homage as a lot of the early stuff that led me to where I am now is from Dance Mania's immense back catalog. The few people I mentioned this idea to were ecstatic to say the least.
Just yesterday I was reminded of my idea by the discovery of the newly formed "Dance Mania Ghetto Classics" label of which I've posted the first two releases. My idea had apparently evolved a bit since I was last conscious of it though. I had acquired the idea of a Mega Mix. After thinking about it for a wee spell it took on a life of it's own and turned into what I'm now mentioning...
the "Dance Mania Mini Mega Mix Project"
This is how it's going to happen. Anyone and Everyone who wants to enter is able to do so. What you have to do is make your own "Mini Mega Mix" of your favorite Dance Mania records and submit it to me. I will take ALL of the mixes submitted to me and create a giant Mega Mix that will then air as a Bleep Radio show.
Here are the technical bits that need to be addressed:
File Format: Wav (ideally) or 320kb/s MP3
Length: 5-15 minutes
Please DO NOT 'master' your mix yourself. Give me the raw recording so that I can make the final show sound as uniform as possible. I am well aware old Dance Mania records are capable of sounding even worse than old Trax records, but that's part of the charm. Do not try to fix the sound.
Please DO include a complete track-list (artist "title" label / Cat. #)
Please DO include whatever information about yourself that you'd want included in the Bleep post and archive. The bare minimum being your name and email address.
Please DO be creative. It can be a normal 'Dj mix' or you can do some on the fly ableton schtick. Go nuts and come up with what you think Dance Mania is about.
The final Bleep show will be available as one edited file (hopefully of considerable length) and each submission will also have it's own individual download link so if you only want to share your own you can (snot).
When you're ready to submit or have additional questions just holler.

In order for me to get your file you can upload it to the following FTP server
host: dancemania.fun-in-the-murky.com
user: dancemania
pass: minimegamix
Once connected to the FTP server you need to simply create your own folder and upload your mix and an information text file with the tracklist for your mix and any information you want shared about yourself. Or you can email me the information, but you still need to upload the mix.
You can also host it on your own web-space if you have it. Simply send me an email with the link to the mix and the info about it and yourself.
Or..
use one of the many file-sharing resources on the 'net. Then simply email me the info I need to retrieve it.

Here are some additional points that have come up and should be shared with everyone.
Deadline There is no deadline set as of this moment. I know it'll take a week or more for the submissions to start rolling in and once they do I'll keep it alive for a minimum of 1 month. However if people are still getting in touch saying they have something, but need an bit more time I will keep it open longer. It's going to be a play it by ear sorta game folks.
Tempo Do not worry about the Tempo of your mix. Pitch it down, pitch it up, it doesn't matter. It'll add to the overall picture if everyone's mix is different. This will also ease a bit of the over use we're bound to find of some tracks.
Sub-labels? No. ONLY Dance Mania catalog records. If we were to start using Dance Mania sub-labels then we'd have to start OKing Dance Mania artists on other labels as well. That would quickly become too much and lose focus.
Repeated Tracks? Don't worry about repeating tracks in the mix. Try and be creative with whatever you use and it should shine through. However, I will keep this post up to date with each mix submitted. That includes who submitted it and it's tracklist. That way if you wanted to show off your deep shelves by playing some goodies no one else has then you could see what's been used already.
Number of Mixes Submitted? Go nuts. I don't see why someone can't do more than one...!
