This week is a smattering of mostly new acquisitions with a few proven heaters tossed in for good measure. Equal parts jack and blam, just an all around good way to end a month.

The newest LP from Neil Landstrumm has headed even further down the path that began a few years back when he started combining and re-arranging old school rave stabs, bass and bleeps within that rave-step framework. Less busy and with more depth than Restaurant of Assassins, is it his response to the one criticism I read about that LP (being too busy at times)? Or is it a natural progression from someone who simply enjoys making the best music he can? It doesn't matter and wasting your time reading into it will only serve to separate you from those of us on the dance floor.

So while enjoying time with my wife in London a few weeks back there were a few musical dabblings snuck in. The Coin Op party I've already mentioned. I also went over and hung out for a night with that cheeky bugger 3d!t and some other familiar faces. The audio is just now becoming available and of course it must be shared...

...i found 2 odd my mixes called Bizarre Machines, they were made as present cds for our parties years back. i've just mastered and converted them, they sound really fffat!.

Vadz has done some archive digging it would seem. And we get to profit from it, which is always welcome. He even took the time to cobble together tracklists from memory AND include discogs links. NOW this is a score.

Not much needs to be said about a new Breakin' release. You damn well know if it made the grade for the head man and is on it's way to us on vinyl it's going to be some quality Electro and or Acid funk.

Veto says...
"After a run of releases from more established artists, Ed DMX's Breakin' Records takes a step into the unknown with the debut single from Norwegian Jørgen Indal , aka Impakt . With a classic feel throughout, this EP runs the gamut of Breakin' styles from crisp electro, through to smooth spacey acid, through to Drexciya-style techno-funk. Indal is a young producer from Trondheim who creates a wide variety of electronic music using ancient analogue machines and modern software instruments. You can hear Detroit and Cornish influences through the EP all polished up with Impakt's glacial sheen. Tight uncluttered production from this new Scandinavian talent, and dynamic mastering courtesy of Matt 'golden ears' Colton (Planet Mu, Sandwell District, Rekids, 20:20 Vision) ensures that this release will cut through in any set..."

I say...
Enjoy it and impatiently await the next.

I arrived home from my vacation thinking I would have to get my arse in gear right away and record a Bleep show. I was very grateful to find a request in my inbox from Sebastian over at klot.net asking if I would like to use his newest set on Bleep. Well it turns out Sebastian plays some pretty mean minimal bleep so of course I said yes!

I'm not entirely sure why there's an excess of Birken related music that's popping out of the wood work, but it's appreciated. This is the latest from his Tonewrecker label. it's a special offer in that the vinyl isn't quite ready yet, but he's made it available through Input-Output as a digital download.

From the gritty sonic wall of Paul's own jerky Gila Hamster, BeNi and Steph's drum work outs and Monox's effect laden wee-woo you'll find all you need. Unless of course it's something boring you're after.

Discarded debris turning backs on the dusty strewn mess of cables and circuits in the corners time passes with calloused wind. Random ghosts from the Mississippi Delta to Chicago seem to find their way into the dusty boxes; a temporary home to let loose and vent ...

This time the robots and machines walked away from the computers and picked up those ghost filled boxes to play them. Intrigued by a feeling of a familiar form, but somewhere they didn't quite know. That's alright because...

In a human world, even the machines get the blues.

Today will be the last post here on Fun in the Murky until I return home. It's now the 11th of October and I wont be back until the 20th. In the past when I've gone on vacation I've set things up to continue on while I was away. Time delayed posts and whatnot. This time I'm not doing that. I'm going to leave this final post with a bunch of stuff in it to hold you all over and hope that when I get back at least some of you are still around.

Since I will be completely cut off from the Murky world of new music if anyone finds any gems in the next week feel free to post a link to it or them in the comments field.

To hold you over I've done some digging and found a few sets. Some of these are recent scores and some are from the vaults.

It'll be the bee's knees.

It was 6 months ago when Leon and I first started talking about him doing a Bleep Show. It's been a long time coming, but then most of the shows are. They tend to be influenced by whatever came out during a given month and then recorded and sat on for months at a time.

This mix that was mentioned was what convinced me that Leon could deliver the goods. I was hoping for a similar set, but I never ask for a Bleep guest to cater to my whimsical ways. Once asked for a set a Bleep guest can do whatever his or her heart desires. So while Leon's set isn't what I'd hoped for, it is still quality music arranged and assembled in a quality fashion. Now that I've listened to it several times I do recommend giving it a whirl. it''s minimal, it's tech house it's techno the way it's supposed to be: varied, genre bending and influenced by more than just the latest top 10 on Beatport or what Richie is playing. Most importantly it has none of that progressive or trance-like stuff that seems to be more and more pervasive.

Could be techno
Could be electro
Could be video game music
Could be noise
Could be a lazy Sunday afternoon floating in the river until a bolt of lightning hits the water.
Could be a cartoon soundtrack.
My musical moods change daily and a lot of times the machines decide the direction of the songs. They don't always fit into release schedule for a "regular" label so I'm putting some of them out directly to you on my own.

Oh..and I seem to make a bunch of silly random doodles in between breathing and blinking and whatever else is going on so each release will have a full page info sheet/arty thing to go with it.

Slappy Recordings is up and running and available only at input/output.

Slappy @ Input-Output

The first release on this wee digi hodge podge is quite rockin'. Considering Paul could probably make burps and farts sound good and that he has a lot of friends who can do the same. I expect we're all going to hear some odd and wonderful things out of Slappy in the time to come.

Here's another vault haul since the new releases are none too pleasant this week. Both Tobias Schmidt and Mosquito should have us all on familiar ground so there are no introductions that need to be made. This is one of Toby's earlier EPs though so I'm guessing that not a large percentage of you have it or know it by sound. It's time for hat to change.

I personally bought this record for 'For.ex', the B2 track and to this day I still enjoy that track on this record the most. It's a bugger to find things it'll play nicely with, but that's my problem and not Toby's. The rest of the Ep is not dis-similar to the few EPs on Tresor that Toby has so if you dig the whole 'Is It Peace To Point A Gun' sound than this EP will be comforting.

Straight from Tha D is what I'd say -- in agreement with the Twilight write-up -- if this was about 10 BPM slower. Otherwise yes, if you have knowledge of early Twilight 76 releases like the 'Scientific EP' and 'Late Night' then this will definitely ring the nostalgia bell hard and long. I'm glad someone remembers how to do it. Not much seems to come from where it started anymore. Maybe I'm out of the loop (however unlikely that would be), but I've not heard anything this 'mid 90's Detroit Electro' in years. I guess it took a UK'er to remind them all of how it's done.

None of the remixes snagged my attention, but the two original Vadz tracks spoke loud and clear without needing the back-up.

Hailing from Taganrog in south Russia, Vadz (real name Vadim Savchenko) got involved in music as a teenager breaking and repairing electrical equipment and watching VHS recordings of TV shows to a soundtrack of Jean Micheal Jarre and Depeche Mode. His first DJ-experience was performing with a cassette deck, a CD-player and a broken Russian mixing desk in front of
a raging crowd of senior school ravers. After experimenting with music software on a home computer he released a tape of hardcore tracks and performed small concerts with local rock-groups with Vadim as an 'electrician' and drummer. In 2003 Vadz sent a demo to Maral Salmassi, DJ, producer and owner of Television Records, which led to the vinyl release of Spider Man EP and Pisdez in 2004 and Rust-Off/Punktire in 2005. The Pisdez EP caused controversy in Russia due to its uncensored lyrics and Electro Hip Hop formula. Expanding on these experimental sounds and embracing darker "mental techno" sounds, Vadim embraced the
digital revolution and began releasing on a number of up and coming net labels. 2008 has been his busiest year to date with digital releases by Vadz on labels including DoBox, Minimus, Subgrade, Russian-Techno.Com and vinyl releases on LaBrat Audiochemicals. "I Was Wondering" is his debut EP for WIDE Records. Vadz is also an accomplished DJ with an expansive record collection that allows him to dig deep into all avenues of electronic music weaving a journey from minimal atmospheric soundscapes to the harder, darker realms of techno
and electro.

Just last weekend there was a bit of shindig that was well worth attending. Headlined by The Black E (Cristian Vogel and Ben Pest), Mustard Gunn and Spandex it would have been good enough even without the excellent crew of Sub Residents.

Now that it's over and done with, those of us who did not live close enough to attend can enjoy the multiple mp3's that are starting to rise to the surface.

The end of another summer and hopefully the beginning of a better release schedule. The New Releases have been fewer and further between the last couple months. Is there a bunch of new stuff about to blow us all away? I hope so.

I've always considered this record to be one of what some people may call their 'secret weapons'. I've never kept it a secret, but by virtue of no one else seeming to know of it, it's certainly kept a certain mystique. In the 8 years I've been enjoying this record I have not heard a single other person play it. I would love to be able to enjoy Vehicle's "Facade Buster" being played by someone else at some point in the future though. Hands down it's become one of my favorite tracks.

Well rounded with both bleepy tech funk and banging hard industrial-esque Techno, this EP is a record I could not recommend enough. It even seems to have a few cheap copies being sold on Discogs right now. Go forth and bust facade.
