Keeping on the Dance Mania tip of course. I've selected an EP that doesn't seem to get much love. I'll grant you the tracks are simple and formulaic, but I've never grown bored of them. They do what they do and they do it well. If a track can hold it's own and still work a dance-floor 14 years after it was released it's doing something right.

In carrying on with the Dance Mania spotlight, here's a Dj Deeon record (probably only one of a few I'll get to) that was first brought to my attention by Terry Mullan. Indeed Terry was my first exposure to a lot of Acid and Chicago as there weren't too many other guys playing it in Toronto that I knew of at that time. It was always a big deal in the mid 90's when we knew Terry was playing/coming.

"...this mix basically demonstrates the influences that dominate the ### sound, with the mix obviously starting back in 1986 with Phuture "Acid Trax" with one track leading to another..."

Bleep 184 is courtesy of Mark Hawkins' alter ego, this set, which represents his ### alias is not quite what is usually poured forth from Mark. It's not unheard of, but not what he's known for. It still has that Chicagoan touch that he seems to enjoy, but with a less abrasive and in your face quality to it.

"...one in the eye for the minimal purists (what does that mean these days? as it's not all about robert hood records any more!!) pitched down techno, classic house moments and sounds of the windy city thrown together with more contemporary pieces..."

Even though there was some time spent on the subject of Dance Mania on Bleep Radio, there are still some people who obviously weren't paying attention!

I'm going to post up a handful of my favorite Dance Mania EP's over the next little bit whenever I can't find anything new. Think of it as another tribute of influences I guess.

I've previously mentioned a label that popped up on the FitM radar relatively recently; 'Cultivated Electronics'. While doing some browsing, to see if there were any new Cultivated Electronics, I found this EP by Matt Whitehead who had 1 track on the last Cultivated Electronics. It's very street beats / freestyle in nature and even almost reminds me of early Detroit a la Model 500. Some pretty good stuff for sure.

This EP of Marcin Czubala's is for Marcin Markowksi. I know you don't like his new stuff -- even though it's not all bad, I still dig about half of it!

Basic, tracky and with bass and squeals it's deceptively simple. It always plays loud well which I've always attributed to the organs. I'm an organ man, that's what I am.

Here's another gem pulled out of hiding. Pulled out merely because I've heard a few sets recorded recently that included the side I don't like. The side that should (!) be played is of course the one with Cari Lekebusch involvement. The Fred (cari) and Lenk mix is without any doubt (from me) the bee's knees.

The 'duo' behind this EP is actually just Si Begg wearing both a disguise and a costume. I don't pick up too much Si Begg as his interests seem to range over many areas mine do not. This EP is definitely worth picking up because of the range. It'll satisfy your Kooky Scientist urges and your Hardcore desires. I typically play around with the B-side, but while recording this EP today realized I've only been getting half the true value out of it.

Unfortunately this is another digital only release that I for one wish weren't. It's the climate we're in I guess. Either we do something about it or shut up ;)

These tracks of Luke's seem --to me anyway-- to stand out a bit from the rest of what he's released so far. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they do seem to have a certain amount of sparsity to them. A little more air between sounds I guess. Not necessarily 'minimal', but something less full. Take a gander and see if I'm imagining things.

It's been way too long since a new solo EP from Hanno has seen the shops' shelves, but that's whats happening. Bass heavy and appropriately dark with sounds like only Hanno seems to be able to muster from his abused noise producing toys. I'm looking forward!

While I've got some new slower, minimal-er bleepier things to go through right now, I just don't seem to be in the mood to play it. So until my sense of rhythm slows to a pace that will allow it I think we're going to be stuck with these more upbeat, heavier mixes. I have been asked by my wife to make a new Electro mix for her and I'd really like to help the gal out, but I'm unsure as to how soon even that'll be.

This is a record that I've had a special attachment to for a long time now. I found it early on in my record buying days and to me it truly represents what the idea 'Minimal Techno' truly is. These days the label 'Minimal Techno' is tossed around carelessly and it's resulted in some serious backlash (deservedly). The B side of this little 10 inch record I could listen to endlessly (and have some days). Now that I've dug it back out of the stacks you'll probably start hearing it more often. I think it's been at least 3-4 years since I included it in a mix and it's high time to correct that.

Mark was asked to put together a mix of his own material by someone, for some reason. And while I don't know the someone or the reason, those little trivial bits of information aren't all that important. What matters is we get to enjoy the mix.

I'm sure if Mark has more information to share he'll either post a link in the comments or on his own web-site soon enough.

Ben passing away was a shock to a lot of people. He was a great guy from what I knew of him and I had only had limited internet talk and one meet up. This EP is being released posthumously because of his great character. His friends and family wanted him to have a release with his name on it instead of the odd track on a compilation (like he already had). This was the end result of that desire.

The thing that's come to be known as Acid House is represented mighty fine with 'Young Thing'. It doesn't break any new ground, but it holds it's own. There is so much 'Acid' floating around right now that is called Acid simply because of a synth used that it's nice to see there is some still coming out that has the old warehouse vibe to it as well.

It's been a wee while since Andrez last contributed to Bleep. I guess he got tired of writing all of those articles for FitM that he's been doing lately. I mean, just because the fellow can string a few words together he thinks it means he's exempt from stringing records together?

Ha ha! Of course not! Enjoy the mix he's put together.

When this puppy came out in 2003 it almost slipped under the radar. I was on one of my rare trips into Toronto's "Play De" shop and saw this bright yellow record hanging on the wall with Barada Trax scribbled on a post-it note and stuck to it. I saw no release info prior to seeing it on that wall and I bet you I wouldn't have found it after that day either. It's one of those killer records that not many people know about. For whatever reason. Enjoy the Acid.

Good month. Keep it up folks!

The numbers I like to be up, are in fact up. The numbers which are nice to have low are indeed sitting lower. I'm probably going to go through Bleep Radio comments this weekend to do what I had mentioned last month, send out a burnt dvd of audio archives to a randomly selected commenter...to be announced I guess.
