This is the Vault Mix: right here.

Now you may think to yourself that that is an odd way to start off this week's Bleep Radio intro. Really its not. Its an introduction to the background for this week's Bleep Radio, which makes perfect sense. In September of 2007 I was home from work. Sick, tired and irritated. I knew I had to put together a mix for Anton Banks and thought I'd give it a shot. As it turns out, I ended up recording, in one take, a mix that still gets listened to more than any other mix of my own. I have copies in the house, car and at work. Apparently, as Anton tells it, the mix still even drives traffic to his web-site.

That means its time for a 2nd mix. I don't think I can top it, equal it or even come close off the cuff again though. So I've decided to do a few trial runs. I packed a bag of records that I believe are worthy. Now for the next 2-3 weeks I'll be doing some mix testing. Today's Bleep was mix test #1. Some of the mixes will make it to final Vault Mix, some wont. Some records will be completely cut and some others will be added. We'll see. Feel free to contribute, criticism is great and it probably wont be as harsh as I've already been on myself concerning this mix.

There are three of Ben's tracks on this release, all proper stormers. 'Troubleshooter' is a remix of a track called 'Yellowcore' by Troubleshooter (aka Rob Holloway) which is out on Scanone's Yellow Machines label. Ben takes the already seriously heavy original track and absolutely raves it up, nicking the riff from 'The Bouncer' and putting a big chunk of sub bass power in there. 'Grime3' is a warping, weaving bassline bubbler that growls along and sounds incredible on a big rig; play loud for maximum effect! The A side is given over to the twisted acid breakbeat monster 'Reunion One', a club destroyer par excellence. Part wonky acid, part ravey stab mania, the cockney samples about having 'no respect for the old school' are extremely fitting!

I never would have called it but here it is. A kraftwerk remix of a defining moment. Never seen this before. Don't know how legit it is. But it's pretty worth grabbing.

It's my opinion that the newest Technasia LP is not the grand slam I keep seeing it described as. It's an ok LP, it could make a great EP. Grab it for "Palankeen", play Obession once in a while and don't worry about the rest.

Dj Rush was always one of the artists that was really inspiring me when I first started trying to write my own music. Off-kilter, wacky, way out, with a big (6′6″) Stage presence, he could even be considered as the Godfather of so-called "wonky techno". For me, back around 1997, that was the appeal for me, trax that were so swung and out there that it almost sounded like the record was out of time with itself, particularly displayed in this mix with track 33 "You'll Catch On" taken from his 1999 release on Djax-Up-Beats which was aptly named "Swingin' the drums"- Yes, it's not one of my bum mixes, the track is SUPPOSED to sound like that!

I didn't put together anything wild and crazy for this week. In fact, this was prepared rather hurriedly due to some Electrical work being done on my home. Not only was it pre-recorded, but this post was pre-typed and scheduled. It's like magic - I'm probably at work!

Heckadecimal has passed me a recent live set of his. That's the extent of any info I've got on it aside from this statement: "...all gear machine func with bonus bass".

The official spiel does just fine on this one...

Luke's Anger returns to Tigerbeat6 after a 2-year hiatus, bringing to the table four tracks of downright raw and unadulterated jacking machine-funk.

"Gross Negligence" starts the EP off, Sounding like a illegal backstreet boxing brawl between a 90's techno classic and it's bastard-basshouse offspring, this track successfully crosses over into many scenes, whilst keeping one foot firmly in the rave.

"Tombstone Trax" brings the funk with it's timeless equation of 303's + bad horror movies! This terrifying combination can only equal one thing: B-movie-acid-perculator classic!

"Nice Car" is a nod to today's high-speed consumerist society. Partly composed on an iphone in an attempt to destroy a car advert, it's a swung out jacker that will have the modern 9-5 dancefloor throwing strange angular shapes all over the shop.

Moving into a slower direction Luke closes with "Sloq Flush", this track retains the trademark Luke's Anger P-Funkesque synths and spooky riffs, but shows a bold new Braindance styled depth to his sound, stretching his compositional palette over a more broken and rough terrain.....

"The Humdinger" EP does exactly what it says on the tin: no fillers, only humdingers!

If you're in the mood for some sharp Electro with a no-nonsense attitude than Kevin Collier's Audio Textures label is what you should be checking out this week. Balls to the wall, for those who like it rough.

This week's Signals From Southwark comes from former Tresor Headquarters DJ Mack. A major lynchpin of the underbelly of Berlin techno, he was the booker at the world famous Tresor club for numerous years...more

To be honest, I've never heard of Mack. But about half of the tracklist sparkles with that glittery glammer that just grabs me.

I was farting around, minding my own business and Mem pops his head into the room (virtually of course) and tells me he has a new set. Of course I want it. Of course I'll Bleep it. It's a thing of beauty!

Cheers for another excellent Bleep Mem!

Mike Holmes is a regular Bleep Radio contributor so his name is not unfamiliar. At the end of July of this year he's going to be making the leap to being a Fun in the Murky person of interest as well since he'll have his first release out (more on that later). I guess in pre-promo mode for that he was invited to do a guest mix on Nonom Radio which is a streaming radio show/podcast; a format you all should be familiar with by now.

Luke has decided to have a go at playing a set of wav files he's collected up lately. Expect to not know any of it. But still enjoy it.

I've got a whole bunch of stuff to post, but I thought I'd start today with the two record orders that have arrived on my door-step recently. One of them today and the other about two weeks ago, but only today did I have a chance to toss them on and give an initial listen.

Mark is back from his short-lived break away from podcastin'. Number 23 is a preparatory mix for an upcoming gig he has and covers quite a bit of ground. One of those random connections mixes that are always fun to listen to for the surprises!

Last week was Dj Conehead's first appearance on Bleep Radio. He made that appearance by allowing me to air his Breakbeat Hardcore (Part 5) mix. Now that was fine, great and/or dandy, but what is one to do the week after to follow up? I'm pretty sure the only reasonable follow-up is another one of Dj Conehead's Breakbeat Hardcore mixes. So to finish off his Bleep Radio debut, we have Breakbeat Hardcore Part 6 today!

As a non-drinker I'm only vaguely aware of what the track names on this EP are. Fortunately they carry little relevance in deciding whether or not a track is enjoyable. In this case I'm a Mohito man.

Update: This is now out!

Cynthia Stern of Input-Output Inc. has put together a treasure trove of remixes here, all of them stemming from his remix of Eric B & Rakim's 'Follow the Leader'. I don't care who you are there's something here for you. I don't think I've come across two people who agreed on what tracks they preferred. It seem as if this one EP has everyone covered in their preferences. Something that I-O seems to do quite often.

This is the first 'A Made Up Sound' record I've ever come across and I think it warrants some digging. It's some class act chunky Tech.

Dj Conehead has a series of themed mixes he began a while back. The series focuses on old-school, Hardcore Breakbeat. Which, as you have already realized, is a very worthy topic. To celebrate his old-school, Hardcore Breakbeat series he's passed on the next two mixes to use as Bleep Radio shows. Today's Bleep is the fifth in the series and next week's Bleep will be the sixth. I hope you like your 90's era Bad-boy Breaks.

Dj Conehead

I have one thing to say about the month of May. I'm glad it's over. For no particular reason. June is already looking more Techno. Bring on June.
