Fun in the Murky
Fun in the Murky boils down to one thing: What I enjoy listening to and playing. Now I guess the tricky part is explainging what I enjoy listening to and playing.
I like a lot of Electronic music. I like Electronic music that is dance-floor friendly. Primarily because I enjoy dancing. I like that dance-floor friendly music to be a little tracky yet unique and with a good dose of cleverness thrown in. Humour is optional as to whether it's blatant or latent, but it should be present in some way. I like humour. Smiling feels good.
Now that Electronic music that I enjoy tends to fall into certain categories that other people have concocted to be sure, but even within those categories I find that I tend to like the 'B-sides' or the equivalent of not what most people bought the music for. Apparently I enjoy being difficult and hard to please. I'm a jaded cynic that just wants what he wants.
Techno is a good starting point label-wise. Although I can safely say that it's not the techno you know to be Techno (...and here comes one of those jaded cynical bits). The Techno you know probably sucks. I am capable of getting quite worked up about the subject of Techno and what it is and isn't. Obviously there is no set definition as to what it is and tat's part of the reason the arguments will never die out. However, there is a general maxim that it's supposed to be following as set out unintentionally in the beginning, but then intentionally followed even if only briefly. Techno is supposed to be forward thinking electronic music. Techno is supposed to be an assimilation of the past into the present in an attempt to pre-emptively strike at the heart of what the future holds. Although I am currently accepting arguments about the 'electronic' part of all that.
I'm quite aware that you still know next to nothing about the music I like and is featured on Fun in the Murky. That's intentional to a point. Obfuscation is fun for those in the know because those in the know tend to be dicks. I'm no different I guess, but I actively strive for a minimum of dickdom. I use Fun in the Murky to promote the music I like to be sure, but I also help a lot fo people in the process. I try to expose new music, I help out artists, labels, stores with web presence and server space and I try to be selfless about the whole thing. An offer of help from Fun in the Murky will never have strings attached.
More to follow when I've got that writey mood...
Fun in the Murky 'Posting Schedule': Monday - Friday: New Releases, Sets, Other news (In that Order, with an attempt to have a minimum of one post per day) Saturday: Sets, Other news Sunday: No post (Since Fun in the Murky has turned into a behemoth I'm going to start using Sundays to do site maintenance. Once in a while I may post something, but it'll be an exception and not a rule.)
